November 2 & 3, 2007...PBT's first discipling weekend seminar "Making Disciples Jesus' Way: First-Century Wisdom for Today" was presented November 2 and 3 at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland.

September 9 & 10, 2007...PBT's Introduces its "Worship From the Inside Out" Seminar at the First Presbyterian Church of Longview, Texas.

Ever wonder if there’s something more you could be getting out of God’s Word to enhance your worship of Him? Could your time in the Word use a jumpstart? Then our “Worship from the Inside Out” Conference may be just what you are looking for. During that time, we explore the essence of worship, barriers to worship, and how we can encourage and enhance our worship of the Lover and Savior of our soul. Jesus called us to worship Him in “spirit and in truth.” Much of our time together is focused on expanding our understanding of the “truth” of worship. As part of doing that, we put “familiar” passages back into their Middle Eastern context to discover more in them that can deepen our sense of worship. It is a time that excites your mind, engages your heart and nurtures your soul.

July 30, 2007..."The Rest of the Story: A Closer Look at Familiar Passages" becomes available.

Ever wonder if there's something more you could be getting out of your Bible Study? Could your time in the Word use a jump start? Then this book is for you. Consider the following recommendation:

"Read this book. It is for anyone interested in developing a more comprehensive understanding of certain key Old and New Testament passages. We all look at Scripture through presumptive and culture-shaping glasses. Doug Greenwold helps us correct our vision and take those glasses off. 'The Rest of the Story' is for Biblical explorers both old and new. Any serious believer or seeker is a 'student.' New students will be struck with delight and made thirsty for more study. Experienced students will be renewed and refreshed and once again realize just how rich these texts can be!" -- Richard L. Gathro, Ed.D, Executive Vice President, Council for Christian Colleges & Universities

June 5, 2007..."In Their Sandals: How His Followers Saw Jesus" now available.

Dr. David Hansen's book takes nine Gospel passages and restores their context so that we can get a better picture of how those in the First Century would have known Jesus. He reveals the important connection between the context of Jesus' teaching and His message allowing us to discover new meaning in recognizable Gospel stories. Contextually developed in the book are "The Woman at the Well," "The Penitent Thief," "Writing on the Ground," "A Widow's Son Lives" and five other familiar passages. David Hansen has several advanced degrees including the Ph.D. and has taught at institutions of higher education, participated in archaeological excavations and has led seminars in the Middle East. He is past President of the Associates for Biblical Research and is a frequent guest lecturer, co-author of two books, and the author of many articles about Bible geography and history.

This 84-page book is available for $9.95 plus $2.95 shipping and handling. Call Customer Service at 1-410-953-0557 to place your order.

May 15, 2007...Sunday Morning Message Downloads Available

This past March, Preserving Bible Times gave its “Bible Alive” seminar at churches in Southern California. One of those churches, Faith Community Church of San Diego, asked our Executive Director and Teaching Fellow Doug Greenwold to bring the Sunday morning messages both before and after that seminar weekend. Both of those messages can now be heard on the church's website. If you ever wondered what a passage looks like after all the contextual pieces get woven back together to recreate the Middle Eastern understanding of a text, just go to www.faithsandiego.org/media/ and click on “Show all Messages.” Look for the 3/18/2007 message “Delivering A Legion: The Difference Context Makes” (from Luke 8) and the 3/25/2007 message “The Call of Levi: The Difference Context Makes" (from Luke 5).

May 7, 2007...New Third Edition of "The Gospels in Context" Available

This 212-page seminal work, now in a newly issued third edition, is the result of Dr. James Martin's twenty years of researching primary source materials in the Middle East. This newly revised and expanded publication integrates citations from The Mishnah, The Talmud, Josephus, and over 100 other primary sources with the Gospel record. Ideal for teachers, pastors and serious students of the Bible, its purpose is to encourage a contextual rediscovery of the purpose, meaning, and thus the significance and relevance of the intended Gospel message. This publication is the perfect compliment to the "Jesus the Messiah: Overview of the Gospels" DVD in that it contains the contextual information pertinent to the images found on that DVD.

April, 2006, Announcing Availability of “Five Story Lines of Scripture” Teaching DVD

Announcing our first DVD that shows Preserving Bible Times (PBT) in action teaching aspects of biblical context. All of our previous DVDs shared PBT’s remarkable Holy Land photographic and video resources for understanding the Bible in its context. With this new teaching DVD, we can now share some of how we use these resources to also open up the Bible in fresh and news ways. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this DVD should be worth at least 10,000 words of communicating what we do at PBT, why we do it that way, while showing some of how we actually go about it.

Filmed at the 2006 Teaching Director’s Conference of Community Bible Study, this DVD develops what we think is an essential framework for understanding the Bible in its context. We call it The Five Story Lines of Scripture, which some prefer to call The REALLY Big Picture of Scripture.

In addition, for the first 25 minutes of this DVD, we also demonstrate why context matters when engaging the Scriptures by revisiting three “familiar” passages. In each of these well-known texts – The Last Words of Jesus, Matthew 27:46; Simon Encounters Jesus, Luke 5:1-11; and Lifting Up the Vine, John 15:2 - we develop the crucial pieces of context inherent in each passage, and then show why there is so much more yet to be discovered in each of these passages. These three contextual “nuggets,” plus the “Five Story Lines of Scripture” framework, also serve to show some of what we do in our exciting and transforming Bible Alive weekends.

We make this new teaching DVD available for $14.95, plus $2.95 shipping and handling. It can be ordered by calling our Customer Service number 410-953-0557.

March 2006 - Preserving Bible Times announced the availability of over 300 of its images from its Israel and Museum Archives can now be found in the the new NIV Archaeology Study Bible publishing by Zondervan in partnership with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. This 2300 page full color Bible is a comprehensive study tool that highlights the archaeological, historical and cultural background of the Bible. Preserving Bible Times is pleased that it was selected by Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary to provide the majority of photographic images for this Bible, including a large selection of biblical artifact images from the world's great museums.

February 2006 - PBT was invited to present its unqiue framework "The Five Story Lines of Scripture" to the 700 attendees of Community Bible Study's 2006 Teaching Directors Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The presentation was made by Doug Greenwold, PBT's Executive Director and Senior Teaching Fellow, on Thursday evening, February 9. A DVD of that 75-minute presentation is now available.

December 2005 - Preserving Bible Times announced the availability of "Making Disciples Jesus' Way: Wisdom We Have Missed." This new book by PBT's Executive Director, Doug Greenwold, is a book for disciples and discipling practioniers. Its purpose is to challenge and provoke our contemporary Western discipleship and spiritual formation paradigms by providing the contextual backdrop of what it meant to “make disciples” in the Gospels. Then it asks: What are we doing, why are we doing it that way, and what fruit are we getting (or not getting)? The thesis of the book is that when we reconnect with the “make disciples” contextual presuppositions in the Gospels, we can more clearly see the “missing ingredients” in discipleship today.

March 2005 - PBT has been invited to present three sessions on "Making Disciples - In Context" at the Christian Missionary Alliance District Directors Annual Disciplemaking Conference in Orlando, Florida, April 8 & 9.
